Team Uddhav's Sanjay Raut Faces Defamation Case Over Murder Conspiracy Charge

(File) Mumbai: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut has been charged with defamation for falsely alleging threat to his life from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's son. The case was registered after former Thane mayor Meenakshi Shinde lodged a complaint against the Rajya Sabha MP. Mr Raut has been charged under relevant sections in the Indian Penal Code for defamation, false charges, promoting enmity, insulting for breach of peace, and for statements for public mischief. The Thackeray faction leader had earlier this week complained to the police that Shrikant Shinde, a Lok Sabha MP, had given a contract to Thane-based Raja Thakur to kill him. He made the allegation in a letter to Thane Police Commissioner, and a copy of the complaint was sent to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who holds the home portfolio. It was in that meeting, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was appointed as interim general secretary and his rival O. Panneerselvam was expelled from the primary membership of the party. A Bench led by Justice Dinesh Maheshwari also directed that an interim order of the apex court on July 6, 2022 in the case was “absolute”. The interim order had permitted the July 11 meeting to be held.  New Delhi World Book Fair to Be Held from February 25 With the participation of over 30 countries and nearly 1,000 publishers and exhibitors, the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) is returning to its full physical form after a gap of three years, the National Book Trust announced on Thursday. This year’s festival will be inaugurated on February 25 by education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, French ambassador Emmanuel Lenain, and NBT chairman Govind Prasad Sharma, among others.   Congress alleged an attempt to detain Pawan Khera at the Delhi airport and protested on the tarmac. New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera was given interim bail hours after his dramatic arrest from the Delhi airport today, after being taken off a flight to Chhattisgarh capital Raipur over an alleged insult to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "There has to be some level of discourse, we are protecting you," Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said, hearing the Congress petition against cases registered in Uttar Pradesh and Assam.
